Access and Limits
Plans
Today, every plan includes VirtualMetric AI: Free, Standard and Enterprise. Whether a plan includes it is a feature of the plan, and if a plan does not, the panel shows an upgrade notice instead of a conversation.
Permissions
Two permissions govern VirtualMetric AI:
| Permission | What it allows | User | Contributor | Admin | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
ASSISTANT_USE | Open and use VirtualMetric AI | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
ASSISTANT_SAMPLE_DATA | Read raw log data: pipeline samples, the input lines of pipeline unit tests, device logs, the audit log, and the secrets in the vault, which are listed without their values | — | — | Yes | Yes |
The VirtualMetric AI button is shown only to users whose role has ASSISTANT_USE. Without ASSISTANT_SAMPLE_DATA, VirtualMetric AI cannot read those five kinds of data, and the sample selected in the pipeline editor is not sent with a message.
For a custom role, the ASSISTANT scope offers ASSISTANT_ADMIN, which grants both permissions, and ASSISTANT_CONTRIBUTOR and ASSISTANT_VIEWER, which grant ASSISTANT_USE alone. See Roles.
VirtualMetric AI Acts as You
VirtualMetric AI reads and proposes as the signed-in user, in the signed-in tenant. Every tool it runs checks your role and your tenant's plan at that moment, and so does every approval of a card, so a role or plan that changed during a conversation is seen at the next step. VirtualMetric AI can never do more than you could do in the console.
When your role lacks a permission a request needs, VirtualMetric AI names the permission. When your plan does not include a feature it needs, VirtualMetric AI says so. See What VirtualMetric AI Refuses.
Limits
| Limit | Value | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Messages per user per day | 100 | A note under the input when 10 or fewer are left: N VirtualMetric AI messages left today. They renew at <time>. At 0, sending is turned off, the note reads No VirtualMetric AI messages left today, and a message past the limit gets You've used all of today's VirtualMetric AI messages. |
| Messages in a short time | 20 per 10 minutes, per user | You are sending messages too quickly. Wait a few minutes, then send the message again. |
| Message length | 16 KB | The message is too long. The message is refused. |
| Resources one card can change | 50 | VirtualMetric AI proposes a larger change on more than one card. |
The plan of the tenant you send the message in decides your daily limit. Today, that limit is 100 messages on every plan. The count is yours across every tenant you use, and it renews at 00:00 UTC. The panel shows the renewal time in your time zone.
What counts as a message:
- A message whose reply fails is given back. A reply you stop with
Stop generating stays counted. - Approving or rejecting a card does not count, so you can still decide cards when you have no messages left for the day.
